The big day of wedding
You prepare the documents 1 year ago; you organize party location, DJ, Photographer’s, Make Up artist, Family travel planning, Hotel recommendations and lots of other big and small details. Then Your Big Day is there, you are relieved because you thing that everything is planned till the last detail – everything is under control. The more everything is planned, the better you feel. The nervous pre-wedding feeling disappears.
The Morning
In the Morning, friends help with the last-minute changes while you sit at the hair and make-up stylist salon with your sister. Different Hair Style and Make up for the morning, another one for the evening. How cool would be that? The evening Style Up was the idea of the hair stylist – and should be a present for our friends. Still everything is going well, like in your storyboard. Nearest family also made it to the city hall – from now on – nothing can go wrong. Friends will find their way you hope.
Double Yes
With my husband, we gave each other YES – the strongest long-term promises a couple can give each other. We are in the middle of the universe. It’s our day. The Photographer is there to hold the moments, Farid Rahmi is making video, the children of our friends offer us each one single rose, and leter on threw rice on us, you are throwing your wedding bucket high in the sky – for the ladies – the one who catches will be the next bride – we have fun. My best friend catches the flower bucket. We enjoy small talk with family and friends on the sunny terrace of the city hall of Oostende. People are enjoying the sun and a glass of champagne. A perfect storyboard – the name of the movie director is the “Mr. Life Itself”. The scenarist also made a great scenery with the sun burning above us and the yacht harbour of Oostende behind us. On our pictures, Mercator – the Symbol Ship of Oostende, is figuring as background.
The storyboard
In the background of your storyboard, another scene starts to come into your movie – a scene of an upset friend who got a problem. One of our friends even overtakes with crisis management while we sit in wedding ceremony – in a front of huge strange painting – where I asks my self “what happened to Flemish masters“?
Salt to a wedding soup - adopting Slovakian wedding customs
The wedding ceremony and photo shoot in the fishermen harbour of Oostende behind us – we sit in the garden of my parents in law and enjoy the nice weather. Time to ralx between the wedding ceremony and the evening wedding party. Time to calm down the emotions, time to sip a tea and have some small talk with the family. Everybody sits around the big garden table – eating strawberries. The Husband of my sister try to start conversation about glass tapete. It is his profession and he likes to talk about it. We help with translation. But alarm. The moment my father in law hear’s the word “glass” he runs to the garage and come back with a big hammer and flowerpot. I see him in slow motion – throwing the big flowerpot on the ground. We all look at each other with big question marks in our eyes. ”You wanted to have glass, here it is”. Light goes on. My father-in-law just tried to make us feel like at home, give us a piece of (his interpretation of) a Slovakian wedding custom. Actually, also other european countries practise this wedding tradition – throwing the porcelain on the ground. But the tradition is done slightly differently. It looks different if your father in law comes with a big brown flower pot and a hammer – but you get use to it. Everytime we wanted to clean the shards - he started to throw another peace of porcelain directly under our feet. It was exceptional and he added to it all his hidden potential. A Belgo - Slovakian style of throwing porcelain tradition was born. My brother in law promised us, he will never ever start conversation with word glass in it – forever scarred about the consequences
The external surprises
We relaxed a bit more in the garden and then we headed home to get refreshed. Fresh shower, morning wedding make make up down – the evening style-up should be done at the wedding location itself. Refreshed – we jump to the car and ride to our wedding location to have the last styling finishings together with friends. Oostende is sometimes pretty busy – but on our day it seemed to be just blocked by traffic. Our car did not moved any more forward. We decided to jump out and go by feet in slippers – we arrived barefeet to our great a g u a d e l m a r wedding location. 2 of our friends just came out – we ask how did it went with the hair and make-up stylists…
“They just left the building”, they said. Ups, thank you for the present, Mr. Stylist. I see my perfect Hollywood storyboard turning to be chaotic avant-garde movie. There is nothing we can do about it. I don’t have my make up with me. Any improvisation possible. I think shortly about my 3 other friends who will be in a similar situation. Marco Chiody – our Photographer is there – he should take some pictures from this session. Marco is also a make-up artist – which I didn’t know. Unfortunately he didn’t bring his make-up stuff. What a pity. He tries to save my visage with some fast tricks and then, I need to be already ready for our guests.
Special effects
Everything goes so fast – but there have been no other surprises and I was thinking about these special effects – I was thinking about some wedding movies and it started to be clear for me, that there is always special wedding chaos pre-programmed. Without this wedding chaos, the wedding would be not the real one. We had a great wedding party – even we missed a friend and a dog, new traditions emerged , and I had a quite natural make up and wild natural hair style… The team of agua del mar was professional, the food delicious and the wine a fairytale. Laurent Chenet is our star photographer for the evening. In the end we had incredible good time with our friends and family – dancing till 4 in the Morning … We say thanks to all our guests for being there and celebrating with us – one of the best days in our life.
